5 Things You Didn’t Know About Bentley Automobiles

Bentley drivers may be particularly discerning about their choice of automobile. They could have purchased the ultimate symbol of taste and refinement in motor cars, but they made the deliberate choice to opt instead for a more performance-oriented option.
As discerning as they are, it is our experience that Bentley drivers know more about the cars they drive than most other luxury marque owners.
So we thought we’d test our theory and offer the tidbits below to see if the Bentley drivers are as aware as they seem to be about the history of Bentley Motors.

What You Didn’t Know About Bentley

  1. The Winged B and Logo Wings are Asymmetrical – In an effort to foil forgers, there are differing numbers of feathers on each side of both the wings that flow from the B on a Bentley hood ornament, and on the Bentley logo, both as it appears on badges affixed to the car and in print.

  2. James Bond Drove … Bentleys – Not Aston Martins. In the books written by Sir Ian Fleming, Bond’s “official” ride of choice was a grey 1933 4.5 Litre convertible.

  3. Bonus “Bet You Didn’t Know”: If you were aware of JB’s affection for Bentleys, did you know that there is no record of Bentley Motors ever building a “Mark VI”, which is what Bond drives in the Moonraker novel (a 1953 model).

  4. Bentley is the Best Mode of Power for This Winter Sport – While there are versions that use horses, dogs and snowmobiles, skijoring is best enjoyed behind an all-wheel drive Bentley. In a nutshell, skijoring is enjoyed when skiers are pulled along in style by the Bentley. They can relax for the ride or try a few tricks along the way.

  5. Bonus “Bet You Didn’t Know” – Bentley also makes what are considered among the best skis in the world, both for skijoring or the slide-down-a-mountain variety. Built of rubber-polymer-coated, carbon-fibre wrapped cedarwood, and supported by a steel structure, they are more expensive than the leading professional competitive skis.
