Pippa Gets Hitched Then Hitches a Ride in the Oldest Surviving Open E-Type

Some people have all the luck, or at least the class and taste to top off their happy nuptials with a spin in the oldest surviving E-Type Roadster.

Pippa Middleton and her new husband (what’s his name?!) left their recent wedding ceremony in a 1961 British racing green E-Type convertible built on February 24th of that year.

Actually, the wedding started in another classic Jag when the bride arrived with her father in a 1951 Mark V.

But this E-Type is famous for more than driving around the sister to the future Queen of England. Aside from its current status as ‘oldest surviving’, this car, registered as 77 RW, has been in the media almost since it first saw the pavement.

First Production Two-Seater

If you like E-Type Roadsters over their Coupe counterparts, 77 RW was the first one off the assembly line.

First Press Demonstrator

When new models are launched, early production versions are loaned out to members of the press for their review. 77 RW was one of the two E-Type press demonstrators for the original E-Type launch.

If you google ‘Jaguar E-Type’, the first web page result is the Wikipedia article on the model. Check the first image at the top right of the page. Now check the registration number on the hood of the car. 77 RW!

Speaking of the Queen of England, she’s no stranger to Jaguars, Land Rovers and Range Rovers.
